Lake District Hotel in
Grasmere - Bridge House Hotel -
Britain's
Favourite View |
|
 |
|
This view of Wastwater in the Lake District was voted
Britain's Favourite View in a national television poll conducted by ITV.
Sally Whittaker, the Coronation Street Actor, championed the whole of
the Lake District but selected this particular view as her favourite.

 |
| This my be "Britain's Favourite View", but even on a
lovely Autumn day, there are not the coach loads of visitors you might
expect. The majesty of
the scenery dominates, the proportions are perfect, and peace and tranquility
are readily found. |
| |
| Even in bad weather this is a magical place to be, where you
can simply soak up the atmosphere. Click
here for a
picture of Wastwater Screes under dark brooding clouds. |
| At the head of the valley, Great Gable is the central
feature. Click
here for a photograph taken from Great Gable summit, looking down on
Wastwater and Wasdale. |
| Alfred Wainwright, in his Guide to the
Southern Fells, says "The rugged heights of the Southern Fells are set
off to perfection by the lovely valleys leading into them, and much of
the pleasure of mountain days spent in this region is contributed by the
delightful approaches...... Wasdale is primitive and unspoiled, an
emerald amongst sombre hills."

If you think that this is the only, or even the best,
view in the Lake District, then think again! The Wasdale view is great
because you can see it from your car - without any climbing - but there
are many other favourite views in the Lake District, especially from the
mountain passes. Ultimately, however, the finest views are only
available further up
into the mountains. Photographs or even BBC films are NOTHING compared to the
real experience of fell walkers, who regularly stay at the Bridge House
Hotel in Grasmere. Below are some recent
photographs taken from high up in the Lake District mountains.
Sprinkling
Tarn and Great Gable,
Sty Head Tarn & Great End,
Mickledore from
Bowfell - these are views to rank amongst the very best in the world!
