Lake District Hotel in Grasmere - Bridge House Hotel -
Conservation |
| Conservation
in the Lake District is important to the
Bridge House Hotel in Grasmere.
We have raised funds for various conservation projects in Grasmere and elsewhere in the
Lake District.
|
|
|
| The
Lake District National Park
is a landscape of great contrasts, where majestic fells tumble into
serene lakes and softly wooded valleys. But the ravages of nature, the
Lakeland weather and visitors take their toll on this
fragile environment. Caring for this landscape is very costly and so, in
2000, Bridge House Hotel joined the Lake
District Tourism and Conservation Partnership to provide much-needed
funding for conservation projects. Since then the Hotel and guests have
raised over £50,000 for various projects - starting with
Grasmere Lakeshore
footpath restoration. Other schemes have included
Japanese knotweed eradication,
upland footpath work via "Fix the Fells" and
Brackenfell restoration |

|
The Bridge
House Hotel in Grasmere is proud to be a fundraiser for such projects.
We add an extra voluntary donation of £1 per person
to each guest's account in order to raise these funds.

South Cumbria Rivers Trust - "is
a registered charity (no. 1114682) whose purpose is to protect, conserve
and rehabilitate the aquatic environments of South Cumbria..."
|
|
This includes our very own River Rothay which flows directly past Bridge
House Hotel and into Grasmere Lake. |
|
 |
 |
|
We
know from local evidence that the River Rothay used to support many more
trout and salmon
than it does now. The health of the river has deteriorated down the
years from neglect, carelessness and changes in rural practise. We would
like to help reverse this trend and conserve the health of these
waterways for future generations. Recent improvements have meant the
return of kingfishers and even otters to the area, but much work needs
to be done to continue this progress. |

 |
|
Bridge House Hotel is currently helping
to fund the ‘Experience the River' programme which is designed to
promote awareness of the aquatic ecosystems amongst local school
children. The programme includes "Experience the River" days, when
children have a chance to visit their local rivers and study the river
life that they find there, learning to respect and look after this
fragile aquatic environment.
This waterways
project has been supported by Bridge House Hotel from 2009
onwards. |

 |
Langdale & Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team
is run entirely by volunteers and funded only by donations. This means they
utterly rely on the
generosity of the public in order to carry out their vital work. LAMRT
undertake many rescues & missions in the area and not just on the mountain tops.
People can get into difficulty in many different situations and this
team of volunteers provide the other Emergency Services with the skills,
local knowledge, and specialist support, that is required in the Lake District National Park. |
|
Bridge House Hotel, in recent years, has taken up raising
funds for the Mountain Rescue Team and we'll bring you more details as
they emerge. Meantime visit the
LAMRT website for
more information. |
